Since bringing Japanese avant-garde to the West in 1981, conceptual legend Rei Kawakubo has created several collaborative brands within the Comme des Garçons empire. Comme des Garçon Homme Plus juxtaposes the refined aristocratic gentleman against the youthful rebellious punk. The asymmetrical cuts and tiered layering of garments transforms the typical and familiar into the divergent and desirable. Kawakubo harnesses the power of deconstruction, asymmetry and a monochromatic color palette to reconceptualize traditional menswear tropes of suits and tailoring with nonconformist cuts, fabric treatments, and hybrid garments.
